Taking the Stress out of Long Distance Travel

Travelling should never be a difficult thing to do, however when you’re travelling a significant distance, it’s understandable that you might be feeling a little stressed about the journey. Making sure that you’ve got everything in order such as your passport, plane tickets, hotel reservations, and even transport is enough to send anyone’s mind into a frenzy. Luckily, we’ve got some fantastic tips on how you can take the stress out of long distance travel!

Break the journey down

A great way to make a long journey seem less daunting is by concentrating on one part at a time. So, if you’ve got to take two or more flights to get to your destination, concentrate on one flight at a time so that it seems like less of a challenge. Use the time spent on the plane to plan the next part of your journey and that way, you won’t feel like you’re burdened with as much to remember.

Leave the car at home

Another part of the journey that might cause you to feel stress is where you’re going to leave your car while you’re travelling. We all know how expensive airport parking can work out to be, so instead of driving to the airport, leave the car at home! Perhaps you could get a family member or friend to drive you to the airport, or book an airport shuttle to take all of the stress off of your shoulders.

Share responsibilities

Unless you’re travelling with children, you should share responsibilities with other individuals that you are travelling with, to ensure that nobody takes the load on themselves. Have your partner (or whoever you’re travelling with) to arrange one part of the journey so that you can concentrate on another. Sharing the load means that at some point or another during travelling, you’ll be able to relax and look forward to your destination.

Take distractions

Sometimes the stress of travel doesn’t necessarily come from being worried about making sure everything is just so, as stress can come from anxiety of flying or even travelling altogether. While this is a totally normal thing to feel, we understand that it’s not very nice to experience. So, rather than spending your whole journey feeling anxious and sick to the stomach, take plenty of distractions to keep you going throughout the entirety of your journey. Download films to your tablet, load up on apps that will keep your mind busy, or even take a few books with you so that you can get lost in a fantasy world for a short time.

Create a plan of action

Another reason for people finding travel stressful is not knowing what to expect when they arrive at their destination. This can be especially daunting if you’re visiting a country for the first time. A great way around this is planning a course of action so that upon arrival, you know where you should be, who you should be talking to, and also take some time to learn a basic level of the language. Taking away the chance of anything unexpected will help you relax and look forward to your experience.

Treat it as the start of your vacation

Finally, another reason that travelling may be stressful is simply because it’s a long time to wait before you can finally relax and enjoy your vacation. Many people use the technique of treating the travelling as a part of their vacation too. You’ll find that if you’re travelling by plane, train, or even boat, that you won’t have to lift a finger as staff are there on hand to help. Perhaps you could try treating it as the start of your vacation to try and take the stress off?
