San Antonio, Texas really comes alive after 5:00 pm. While you may miss out on some sightseeing if you’re working or traveling during the day, there is plenty to see and do at night. While San Antonio is the United States’ seventh largest city, the people have maintained their small-town welcoming attitudes. So go out and enjoy the city!
You can’t visit San Antonio without seeing the Alamo! While it may be closed at night, you should still see the outside.
How to Get to San Antonio, TX
Fly into San Antonio’s International Airport (SAT), about 8 miles north of downtown. The city’s public transportation bus takes travelers directly downtown in about 30 minutes.
The city’s public transportation works well for visitors staying downtown. Rideshare and taxi cabs are also popular. For those not staying downtown or who want more freedom, rent a car since the city is so large.
Where to Eat in San Antonio for Dinner
Mi Tierra // Located in the Market area, this 24-hour cafe and bakery serves traditional Tex-Mex food. It is a San Antonio institution that should not be missed.
Cured // Located in The Pearl, this restaurant specializes in charcuterie-items. Foodie-heaven.
Savor // Also located in The Pearl, the Culinary Institute of America’s chefs in training have an opportunity to showcase their skills in this unique experience.
Beto’s Alt-Mex // Casual eatery with arguably the best tacos in town. But their savory empanadas put them on everyone’s radar, after being featured on “Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives.”
Henry’s Puffy Taco // This traditional San Antonio dish is like a taco except that the tortilla is fried so that it is puffy. Henry’s is where you go to try it.
Things to See in San Antonio at Night
The Riverwalk // The iconic San Antonio downtown Riverwalk is teaming with restaurants, bars, shops, and lots of activities.
The Pearl // Former brewery turned into a multi-use facility with great retail, restaurants, bars, and event space.
Tower of the Americas // A great point to see many of the landmarks in town. Try to time your visit with Happy Hour and sunset for some amazing views of the city to see it transform from day into night.
El Mercado // The market is another area with restaurants, shops, and bars, but a different feel from the Riverwalk.
Go to a Spurs game // Fans of basketball should catch some NBA action.
Six Flags Fiesta Texas // Thrill-seekers should check out this amusement park which frequently holds evening hours at the park.
Walking tours // Often starting at 6 or 6:30 pm, visitors will find walking tours of all kinds. Walking tours are a great way to experience San Antonio with an expert about this beautiful city.
